Out on a Limb: An Introduction to Jack Hodgins

Top of page

As he discusses his work and describes his ten-year struggle to succeed as a writer, award-winning Vancouver Island author Jack Hodgins stresses the importance of following the basic rules of creative writing. Throughout the film, scenes of Vancouver Islanders, Hodgins's source of inspiration for his characters, accompany readings from The Invention of the World, his first novel, and Spit Delaney's Island, a collection of short stories. This is one of a number of films on Canadian writers designed for high school and college students.
