This Is Only a Test

In 1982, the United States announced its desire to test its Cruise missile in northern Canada--because the terrain is identical to that of northern Russia. People committed to peace reacted to the news: there were demonstrations, discussions, protests and marches. One protest, led by a spunky teenager, was the twelve-day Anti-Cruise Easter March from the Canadian Forces Base in Cold Lake, Alberta (where the Cruise was to be tested), to the city of Edmonton, 300 kilometers away. This documentary follows the marchers on their trek, and, through interviews with them and others involved in the peace movement, the film records their views on peace, the nuclear threat and the testing of offensive weapons in Canada. Despite widespread protests and public reaction, the Cruise missile was tested over Canadian territory on March 6, 1984.
