Mapping for Defence (1957)

Top of page

This film illustrates the coordinated program for mapping Canada, as carried out by survey teams of the Canadian Army and the Surveys and Mapping Branch of the Department of Mines and Technical Surveys. It shows in detail how, using highly sensitive electronic and other map-making instruments, ground surveys are correlated with aerial photographic surveys and later translated into maps of the highest degree of accuracy. The mathematical principles of taking readings from the ground and from the air are illustrated by animated diagrams.
