Satellite Symphony - Beethoven and One Woman's Dream

Top of page

The story of an irrepressible dreamer of peace through music, and an audacious dream come true. In December, 1988, at Montréal's Place des Arts, a little-known French conductor named Françoise Legrand conducted an international all-star symphony, the World Philharmonic Orchestra she had founded, in a very special concert. It was a performance of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony and its great Ode to Joy, incorporating a live satellite broadcast of choirs from Moscow, Geneva and San Francisco.
