Interviews with director Donald Brittain are interwoven with the best of his documentary films in this series. Fields of Sacrifice is a memorable tribute to the more than 100 000 Canadians who lost their lives in the first and second World Wars. The film visits battlefields of both World Wars and the cemeteries where fallen servicemen are buried. Canada at War: The Road to Ortona. July 1943 - January 1944. The Canadian 1st Division, flanked by the British and Americans, pushes into Italy. Ortona, a 15th century town, riddled with bullets and grenades, is taken by Canadians in fierce and costly street fighting.
