A classroom version of the longer Fish Wars which examines the economic, environmental, social, and political issues surrounding aquaculture or fish farming. Changing Tides is a discussion-starter on a multitude of topics. Recounting all the steps from collecting eggs, raising the young salmon in hatcheries. to the delivery to market, students can debate and discuss issues such as impact on water quality, disease control, genetic manipulation of fish, and the future of the traditional salmon fisheries. Changing Tides focuses on the B.C. experience, but the broad issues of technological change and resource management are relevant throughout North America. For students and teachers of natural development, government role in economic development and environmental protection, technological change, and consumer information.
