Il visite la Lune, Mars, Vénus, Mercure; il atteint Pluton, à 6,4 milliards de kilomètres du Soleil, il va au-delà des myriades de soleils les plus proches, jusqu'aux nuages d'étoiles et aux nébuleuses. Ce film a été choisi, parmi les sources disponibles à l'époque, par Stanley Kubrick pour la réalisation d'effets spéciaux dans son film 2001 : l'Odyssée de l'espace.
