This compilation of eight environmental films, designed to support the teaching of English as a Second Language, will encourage discussion, and is appropriate for different levels of language competence. Boomsville traces the growth of a city, from a tiny settlement to the car-clogged metropolis that so many cities are today (10 min. 12 sec.); Deep Threat shows man evolving from the sea, then developing industry and the wastes that pollute that same sea (7 min. 12 sec.); The Quiet Racket: An amusing tale of a man who feels the common urge to escape the city's noise for a weekend of quiet in the hills beyond (7 min. 23 sec.); "Water, Water, Everywhere...": an underwater close-up of the death of a trout in polluted water (4 min. 45 sec.); What on Earth!: Martian visitors judge cars to be the true inhabitants of Earth, while people appear to be parasites infesting the autos (9 min. 35 sec.); People and Science: A Test of Time: a union leader is confronted with the dilemma of whether to agree to the solution to his company's waste-disposal problem which would mean the loss of jobs for many of his fellow employees (10 min. 33 sec.): Acid Rain: Requiem or Recovery looks at the impact of acid rain on our woods, water and wildlife (26 min. 50 sec.); Mother Earth: This celebration of life on our planet looks at the earth and our connection to all other beings with references to the forces that threaten us (10 min. 33 sec.).
