Before Columbus: Invasion

Top of page

Before Columbus is a series of three films, Invasion, Conversion, and Rebellion, which describe, "with a few stories that stand for so many," the Indigenous experience in the Americas during the past five centuries. Part One, Invasion, tells a story of Columbus's "discovery" of the Americas not often found in the history books. It describes the seizure of territory in two continents from the Arctic to the tip of Tierra del Fuego. This attack against Native people continues to this day, from the flooding of Cree lands in Canada for hydro development and the destruction of the Florida Everglades of the Seminole, to the clearing of the Amazon rainforest of the Panara in Brazil.
