In Celebration of Nunavut - Stories of Tuktu - Volume 4
This series centres on the reminiscences of Tuktu, a fictional elder, recalling the traditional Inuit ways of his childhood. The Tuktu series was compiled from footage of the Netsilik people of Pelly Bay. Volume 4 contains: Tuktu and the Big Seal (14 min. 21 sec.) Tuktu's father kills a seal, and takes pride in sharing the best meat with the rest of the community. In this video, we also learn how a hunter finds snow-covered breathing holes, and how best to approach a seal. (1967); Tuktu and the Caribou Hunt (14 min. 15 sec.) Traditionally, caribou provided the Inuit with meat, skin for tents and clothes, and bone for everything from sewing needles and fish-hooks to sled runners. Tuktu joins his father on a caribou hunt, followed by a feast with friends. (1967).
