Top of page

Nine videos documenting Inuit resilience in the change from nomadic to settled life. Volume 1 contains: Labrador North (37 min. 30 sec.) The story of the catastrophic effects that followed the relocation of Labrador Inuit to communities south of their traditional lands--and of the efforts made by Aboriginals and whites to improve social conditions. Made in 1973, Labrador North details problems ranging from the lack of appropriate community services, to a school system that routinely fails its students, to the psychological effects of relocation. The video also explores how people in the community of Nain organized to gain more political power and to ensure that power and information were shared by all. (1973)
