In Celebration of Nunavut - Netsilik - Volume 7
This extraordinary series is a record of the traditional way of life of the Netsilik people, through the seasons of the year. Presented with no commentary or music, these videos are in Inuktitut, with no subtitles. Volume7 contains: At the Winter Sea Ice Camp: Part 3 (30 min. 16 sec.) Everybody builds a large communal igloo. The men drag a seal into the igloo, and one of the women cleans it. Some women and children drink blood, and the meat is divided among the families. Then the men play various games of strength (1967); At the Winter Sea Ice Camp: Part 4 (34 min. 40 sec.) In the large igloo the men place bets and play spear-the-peg, along with other games. At the seal hole, the men capture a seal, then return to camp. The day culminates in a drum dance. The next day, the group packs up and treks across the ice. (1967). Some graphic hunting footage.
