In Celebration of Nunavut - Circumpolar Communities - Volume 1

Three videos on the unique cultures that share the polar region. Volume 1 contains: Northwest Frontier (29 min.) A snapshot of how southerners viewed the Northwest Territories in the early 1940s--as a place where Inuit life is difficult, primitive and cheerful; and where oil drilling and gold and uranium mining will usher in an era of industry and prosperity. (1942); North (14 min. 8 sec.) An impressionistic attempt to capture the essence of the North, circa 1968, without words. This beautifully edited film intersperses footage of wildlife and the breathtaking landscape with images of the land's inhabitants and visitors--and of the industries that have recently come to this isolated region. (1968)
