Youth Suicide Prevention Package
Suicide is a sensitive and difficult issue to discuss. These videos openly and honestly explore how one young man turned his life around following suicide attempts and how one family copes following the suicide of a loved one. Patrick's Story: Patrick Bird shares his journey from despair and attempted suicide to survival. With the help of friends and family, he has turned his life around, discovering a special talent for music and acting and finding strength in Cree spiritual traditions. Remembering Tom: Tom was 18 when he killed himself, leaving his family to deal with the anguish of his death. We meet Tom's parents, sister and brother two years later. They convey how they have learned to live with, not "get over," Tom's suicide. Rachel, 17, describes how she coped with "the greatest pain anyone can imagine" and recounts overcoming her own suicidal thoughts in the months after her brother died. The strength and resilience of Rachel and her family vividly demonstrate that although we cannot always prevent such a tragedy, we can make choices about how to cope.
