Heartbeat of the Nations: Aboriginal Women in the Arts
Singing Our Stories
Three Cherokee women sit around the kitchen table singing. They are among the first ladies of Aboriginal song. This film celebrates a rich musical heritage in a journey that takes viewers from the Smokey Mountains of North Carolina to Vancouver Island, from the plains of Alberta to the mesas of New Mexico.
Hands of History
Doreen Jensen, Rena Point Bolton, Jane Ash Poitras and Joane Cardinal-Schubert are First Nations artists who seek to find a continuum from traditional to contemporary forms of expression. This film is a moving testimony to the role that Aboriginal women artists play in maintaining culture.
