Manawan - DVD
Description
In 1970 the Atikamek people of Manawan, Quebec, undertook an extraordinary
creative collaboration with Alanis Obomsawin, a visionary artist destined to
become one of North America’s leading Aboriginal filmmakers.
Manawan is the result of that collective
effort. Conceived as a multimedia educational kit, it presented young
Canadians with a new kind of Aboriginal ethnography and history, one created
and controlled from within.
Challenging official colonial history, Obomsawin placed the Atikamek at
the centre of their own story, applying activist principles that distinguish
her entire body of work.
An important early work from Alanis Obomsawin, Manawan
(spelled Manowan in the original) finds new
life in this remastered edition.
