Never Lose Sight - DVD/Pour ne pas perdre le nord - DVD
Description
Despite vast landscapes that seem unspoiled, Nunavut is not immune to the ills
of the rest of the planet. Beneath the layer of snow, there are mountains of
trash of all sorts. Iqaluit's two dumps are filled beyond capacity and the
municipality has no plan to solve the problem. Some concerned citizens have
decided to act.
Jim Little has started up a successful composting program, despite the
lack of enthusiasm and support of local authorities. By dint of his own
labour, and with the help of his sons, he is keeping this grassroots
initiative going, in the hopes of one day extending the program to the entire
community. We also follow the experience of the filmmaker and her friends, who
have decided to build a cabin using nothing but materials from the dump.
Through the story and the characters' commentary, we discover the special
problems of this isolated region and just how serious the situation is. But,
above all, we hear a call to action from these residents, who don't want to
see the North they love disappear.
In English and French with English or French subtitles.
