Description
In 1924, fifty-three French-speaking nuns separated from their unilingual
English community for cultural reasons. Since then, the
Notre-Dame-du-Sacré-Cœur Congregation has continuously fought for the
preservation of Acadian values. In 1943, it founded Collège Notre-Dame
d’Acadie, where young Acadian women were able to get an education in French
for the first time in New Brunswick. Nowadays, these open-minded nuns campaign
with the same fervour for the rights of the poor and a greater role for women
in the Catholic Church.
