The NFB at the 2015 Sommets du cinéma d'animation.
The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is one of the official partners of the 2015 Sommets du cinéma d'animation, which will feature a selection of four NFB films: Autos Portraits (Carface) by Claude Cloutier is in international and Canadian competition, while My Heart Attack (Ma crise cardiaque) by Sheldon Cohen, BAM by Howie Shia and All the Rage (Dernier cri) by Alexandra Lemay are in Canadian competition in the Panorama Québec/Canada category. The festival takes place November 25 to 29 in Montreal.

Three interactive works in the UXdoc section, including the world premiere of virtual reality experience The Unknown Photographer, a unique way to mark Remembrance Day
Three National Film Board of Canada (NFB) interactive works will be featured in the UXdoc section of this year's Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM), including Loïc Suty's virtual reality experience The Unknown Photographer (Turbulent/NFB), which will have its world premiere with the Montreal-based production team in attendance. UXdoc will also present the interactive documentary series Do Not Track (Upian/NFB/Arte/BR) by award-winning Canadian documentarist and Web producer Brett Gaylor, who will also be on hand, and the Quebec premiere of Katerina Cizek's Universe Within: Digital Lives in the Global Highrise (NFB) with producer David Oppenheim in attendance.

THEATER OF LIFE A new documentary about acclaimed chef Massimo Bottura's remarkable soup kitchen, where meals are made from food waste
Triplex Films, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), Phi Films and Super Channel are proud to announce the end of shooting on Theater of Life, a moving new feature documentary about an innovative initiative to combat hunger and food waste, directed by Peter Svatek and scheduled for release in spring 2016. Featuring world-renowned chef Massimo Bottura and 40 leading Canadian and international chefs, the film is part of a multi-platform project that includes live events and a website.

NFB announces the filming of a new Julien Fréchette documentary.
Filmmaker Julien Fréchette has returned from Iraqi Kurdistan to continue filming his new feature-length documentary, whose working title is Ma guerre. In it, he explores the little-known phenomenon of Westerners voluntarily joining Kurdish forces fighting the armed group Islamic State in Iraq and Syria. Following fighters from France, the U.S., and Canada-including "Wali," a former Royal 22e Régiment sniper from Quebec, and Hanna Böhman, originally from British Columbia-Ma guerre dives into their world, questioning their motivations and documenting their struggle on the other side of jihad. The documentary also examines the complex grey zones created by this unique situation and the challenges that these people face when they return to civilian life.

Inspired by Vancouver author John Vaillant's non-fiction book The Golden Spruce, the visually arresting film is a compelling hybrid of drama and documentary and chronicles BC logging engineer and survivalist Grant Hadwin's emotional crusade against clear-cutting in the world's last great temperate rainforest―a crusade that ended in a shocking, illegal act. NFB short Blood Manifesto by Theodore Ushev wins the Prix créativité, presented by MAtv at the 2015 Festival du nouveau cinéma
A National Film Board of Canada (NFB) film in the Focus – Short Film program of the 44th Festival du nouveau cinéma (FNC) received an award during the festival's closing ceremony on October 17. Theodore Ushev's Blood Manifesto won the Prix créativité, which is presented by MAtv and awarded to the most original short film in the Focus competition. The jury was composed of Daniel Ebner, Mike Plante and Seigo Tono.

Halifax's Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 is the first Canadian stop for the National Film Board of Canada's #GIFnTAKE, a reboot of the classic photo booth that places participants front and centre in an NFB animated film. From October 17 to 22, visitors to the museum can step into the NFB's new photo booth for an up-close encounter with Charlie Chamberlain, the subject of Rachel Bower's The Singing Lumberjack. The NFB will also be streaming this short film free of charge on NFB.ca as of October 16-so you can watch it, then visit the #GIFnTAKE booth and star in it!
