The NFB-ARTE France co-production Bar Code awarded the FIPA d’Or Grand Prize for Web Creation at the Biarritz International Festival of Audiovisual Programs

Press release

Montreal, January 31, 2012 – The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) announces that Bar Code barcode.tv, the first mobile and interactive webdoc, co-produced by the NFB and ARTE France, won the FIPA d’Or Grand Prize for Web Creation at the International Festival of Audiovisual Programs (FIPA) in Biarritz, France, on January 28. FIPA created the new category this year to acknowledge groundbreaking audiovisual works.

The Project

One hundred films, 30 directors from Canada and Europe, and a new spin on everyday objects: Bar Code is international and trilingual (English, French and German) and uses the objects that surround us as a starting point for examining who we are. Available on four platforms—a website, an iPhone app, an installation and a television program—this new collective work playfully extends the concept of interactivity beyond the computer.

The Team

Bar Code is an NFB-ARTE France co-production produced by Hugues Sweeney and Rob McLaughlin of the NFB and Joël Ronez, Marianne Levy-Leblond and David Carzon of ARTE France. Additional team members are Dominique Willieme (production manager); Juliette Guigon and Patrick Winocour of Quark, assisted by Dan Weingrod (line producer – France); Pascal Brouard (direction and coordination); Philippe Archontakis and the Departement.ca team (art direction and programming).

About the NFB
