Vancouver, May 30, 2012 – The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) announces that Mighty Jerome, the triumphant true story of one of Canada’s—and the world’s—greatest track athletes, is now available on DVD in Canada and for digital download.

In addition to the DVD release the NFB is now offering a download-to-own service. It’s a new, easier way to purchase recent and classic NFB films online.

Mighty Jerome was recently nominated for a 2012 Northwest Regional Emmy Award in the category of Documentary: Historical. The film premiered at the 2010 Vancouver International Film Festival, followed by screenings at 2011 Hot Docs in Toronto and Vues d’Afrique Pan Africa International Film Festival in Montreal.

From filmmaker Charles Officer comes the story of the rise, fall and redemption of Harry Jerome, track and field star and one of Canada’s greatest athletes. Jerome’s life and career were riddled with both triumph and tribulation, but he ultimately proved himself a champion both on and off the track. Featuring interviews with Jerome’s family, Canadian Olympic athletes Doug Clement and Bruce Kidd, and journalist Alan Fotheringham, the film tells the story of what Jerome’s coach, the legendary Bill Bowerman, called “the greatest comeback in track and field history.” Compelling, surprising and urgently paced, Mighty Jerome will electrify sports fans, history buffs and all those with an appreciation for tales of courage and achievement. Produced by Selwyn Jacob (NFB).
