Julien Fréchette's Le prix des mots receives Magnus Isacsson Award Special Mention at the 15th Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal

Montreal, November 18, 2012 – Julien Fréchette's documentary Le prix des mots ( Silence Is Gold, MC2 Communication Média/NFB) received a Special Mention for the Magnus Isacsson Award during the closing weekend of the 15th Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM).

Named after the Montreal documentary filmmaker who died earlier this year, the Magnus Isacsson Award is given to emerging filmmakers for socially conscious work. This new RIDM award is presented by ACIC/NFB, Cinéma Politica, Doc Québec and the ARRQ.

The jury consisted of Johanne Bergeron, Jocelyne Clarke, Martin Duckworth, Ian Oliveri and Svetla Turnin. This is the first award for the film, whose world premiere was on November 9 at RIDM.

This year's Magnus Isacsson Award went to Angad Singh Bhalla for her film Herman's House.

About the film

A troubling documentary thriller, Le prix des mots takes us through the twists and turns of judicial proceedings pitting Canadian mining companies Barrick Gold and Banro against author Alain Deneault, his co-writers and publisher Éditions Écosociété following the 2008 release of the book Noir Canada.
