Dufour-Laperrière Félix
Born in 1981 in Chicoutimi, Félix Dufour-Laperrière originally intended to study physics but turning to the arts he enthusiastically discovered animation and experimental film at the Université de Montréal. He earned a B.A. in Fine Arts at Montreal's Concordia University, majoring in animation.
His films are highly personal. Encre noire sur fond d'azur (2003) screened at over 20 international festivals and received a Jutra nomination for best Quebec animation. Around 40 festivals, including Annecy, selected his next film, Un, deux, trois, crépuscule (2006). This ambitious non-narrative work, characterized by the richness of its images, won four awards. Head, co-directed with Dominic Étienne Simard, was similarly successful.
In 2007, Dufour-Laperrière won two artist-in-residence positions in France. At Centre Images he made Variations sur Marilou after the song by Serge Gainsbourg. That same year, he became the first Canadian to win the Concours de la résidence au studio Folimage (Valence), where he made Rosa Rosa. The film is co-produced by the NFB, Arte France and Noir Sur Blanc Animation, an independent production house which he founded.
