A compilation of three films examining the urgent need for more and better services for battered women. Interviews with victims and those who work with battered women define the extent of the problem and the kinds of support women need to rebuild their lives. Titles include: Sylvie's Story: Through the experience of a battered woman who seeks shelter in a Montreal transition house, the film emphasizes the importance for women of speaking out and sharing their experiences with other women as well as the role of the transition house in putting the battered woman in touch with appropriate legal and social services (27 min. 43 sec.); A Safe Distance: Some innovative approaches to providing services and accommodation for battered women in rural, northern, and Native communities. The film introduces the women who operate and use various types of accommodation such as transition houses, transition apartments, and safe houses and emphasizes the urgent need for trained staff, adequate funding, and ongoing programs (27 min. 40 sec.); and Moving On: The problem of wife assault in London, Ontario, a rare model community that has effectively responded with a coordinated effort by police, lawyers, doctors, transition house staff, women's groups, and social services agencies (28 min. 2 sec.).
