This compilation tells the stories fo three women who, tired of being either underpaid or unemployed, successfully explored non-traditional professions. Pretend You're Wearing a Barrel: At thirty-five, unemployed single mother Lynn Ryan decided to change her life. With help from employment counsellors and a course in welding, she became an apprentice engineer in a Vancouver shipyard (9 min. 52 sec.); She's a Railroader: In her job for CN, twenty-one year old Karen Zaitchik jumps on and off moving boxcars, throws switches, pulls brakes and uncouples freights with ease and confidence (9 min. 48 sec.); Laila: Tired of low-paying jobs, Laila Paattinen completed a five-month course in dry-wall installation. When she ran into resistance because she had chosen a non-traditional job for women, she solved her problems by opening her own dry-wall application business (10 min. 33 sec.).
