Résumé
This Is Our Planet, This Is Our Earth is a series of
documentaries that expose various environmental situations and evoke us to
understand the impact while empowering and encouraging all of us to make
positive changes. The passion for the truth and the openness of those involved
is essential to making a difference for our planet earth.
DISC 1 - TOXIC TRESSPASS
In Toxic Trespass, intrepid
filmmaker Barri Cohen launches an investigation into the effects of the
chemical soup around us. She starts with her 10-year-old daughter, whose blood
carries carcinogens like benzene and the long-banned DDT. Then, Cohen heads
out to Windsor and Sarnia: Canadian toxic hotspots, with startling clusters of
deadly diseases. Toxic Trespass is accompanied by a comprehensive guidebook
for educators, activists and concerned citizens.
DISC 2 - THE FIGHT FOR TRUE FARMING
In this documentary, crop and animal farmers offer solutions to the
social and environmental scourges of factory farming. In Europe as well as
North America, a current of resistance bringing together farmers and consumers
insists that it is possible – indeed imperative – to grow food differently.
The Fight for True Farming is a film of grim lucidity but also irrepressible
hope.
DISC 3 - BONUS EPISODES (Only available in English )
BHOPAL: SEARCH FOR JUSTICE
In 1984, the Union Carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal,
India, leaked poisonous methyl isocyanate gas, killing at least 15,000 people.
Hundreds of thousands more were permanently maimed. Twenty years later, amid
charges of corruption, graft and suppression of medical and environmental
research about the tragedy, the victims are still not adequately compensated
and cared for.
CRAPSHOOT: THE GAMBLE WITH OUR WASTES
A hazardous mix of waste is flushed into the sewer every
day. The billions of litres of water - combined with unknown quantities of
chemicals, solvents, heavy metals, human waste and food - where does it all
go? And what does it do to us? This bold documentary questions whether the
sewer is actually compounding our waste problems. While scientists warn of
links between sewage practices and potential health risks, activists,
engineers and concerned citizens challenge our fundamental attitudes to waste.
