NFB 2000: The NFB's mandate, mission and vision


The NFB's mandate, as defined in the Film Act of 1950, is as relevant today and for the future as it was when it was first articulated. What is changing is how the NFB chooses to interpret this mandate.

Over the next few years the NFB will focus on maintaining its production capacity and will reduce or eliminate those activities which are no longer cost-effective and which do not relate directly to production.

Within this streamlined environment the NFB will remain faithful to the following mission statement, developed in the summer of 1995 :
